WHOIS / RDAP

IP Tools

Registry data for domains, IP ranges and ASNs.

Run this tool: the interactive WHOIS / RDAP loads here (requires JavaScript). Input: Domain, IP or ASN — e.g. AS64500.

Description

WHOIS / RDAP queries the official registry data for a domain, IP range or ASN using the modern RDAP protocol with redirect following, returning registration, registrar and contact details.

Features

✓ RDAP bootstrap with automatic redirect following
✓ Domain, IP range and ASN queries in one tool
✓ Registrar, registration and expiry dates
✓ Name server and status flag display

How to Use

Enter a domain (example.org), an IP or CIDR (203.0.113.0/24), or an ASN (AS64500) and run the tool. The probe uses rdap.org to bootstrap to the correct registry and follows redirects.

Input: Domain, IP or ASN — e.g. AS64500.

Understanding the Results

For domains: registrar, creation, update and expiry dates, name servers, and status flags (clientTransferProhibited etc.). For IPs/ASNs: the holder, network range, country and registry. Status flags control what operations are permitted on the domain; an expired expiry date means the domain is at risk of deletion.

Common Use Cases & Examples

→ Check a domain’s registrar and expiry date before renewal.

→ Look up the holder and registry for an IP range or ASN.

→ Identify the abuse contact for a malicious host.

→ Verify domain status flags during a transfer or dispute.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between WHOIS and RDAP?

WHOIS is the older text protocol served on port 43; RDAP is its modern successor — a REST/JSON protocol with structured data, internationalisation and built-in redirection. RDAP is the official standard for registry data and this tool uses it.

Why is some contact information redacted?

Under privacy regulations like GDPR, most registries redact registrant contact details and often provide a proxy or web-contact form instead. Technical and abuse contacts may still be visible where published.

What do domain status flags mean?

Flags like clientTransferProhibited prevent unauthorised transfers or deletions. They are set by the registrar for protection. A status of pendingDelete or redemptionPeriod indicates the domain is in a lifecycle phase toward deletion or recovery.

Testing methodology
IP geolocation uses the public ip-api.com service; WHOIS/RDAP uses the rdap.org bootstrap and follows redirects to the authoritative RDAP server; the Subnet Calculator and Multicast MAC Checker are pure local arithmetic with no network calls; BGP Route View queries public route-data services.
